Kona International Airport is located seven miles northwest of Kailua-Kona on the island of Hawaii. The airport serves domestic, international, interisland and commuter/air taxi. Queen Kaahumanu Highway offers easy access to the airport. Along the passenger terminals, the access roads form a loop enclosing public parking and rental car facilities. An additional complex of facilities, used primarily by rental car agencies for returns, general maintenance, and storage is located along the airport access roadway.

Upon arrival at Keahole, go to the rental agency booths which are near to the baggage claim area to fill out your rental agreement. In the case of Thrifty, instead of going to the rental booth area by baggage claim, please proceed directly to the median for all car rental pick-ups. The shuttle bus runs every 4 minutes. The shuttle bus will pick you up and take you to the location for the rental process and car-pick up. For all others, fill out the rental agreement at the agency booth by baggage claim and then proceed to the median to catch the shuttle bus ride up the hill to pick up your car.

The common practice is to go up the hill to pick up your car while your luggage is being unloaded. Once you have the car, you then drive back down the hill and park in front of the baggage claim area. Grab your bags, load the car and off you go
